After a total of twenty-five years in the heavy metal biz, Wino now pursues a solo career, having assembled a band capable of backing up his wonderfully fluent guitar style, grizzly man vocals and good, honest, hard rock songwriting. Punctuated Equilibrium positively exudes authenticity – it’s all so soaked in Wino’s personality, something that’s transmitted with warmth and approachability despite the hard-hitting riffage and hair-raising solos. Tellingly, the guitarist’s first album with Saint Vitus was titled Born Too Late, and there’s a definite sense that this is a man who could only have found the commercial success and widespread recognition he clearly deserves in some other bygone era.
