Violent Apathy – Here Today….

“Violent Apathy were starting to slow down the tempo and fancy things up just a bit with this 1983 EP, which documents the band’s final lineup — these six songs take up all of 11 minutes (!), and feature not only two guitars but a gesture toward the burgeoning Latin music market with a revved-up cover of “La Bamba” in which vocalist Kenny Knott takes some sonic detours Ritchie Valens would never have dreamed of. The band was still hitting pretty hard at this point, with Richard Bowser and Tom Fuller making a potent guitar combination and the rhythm section of Eric Lorey and Andy Bennett driving the songs with plenty of muscle, and the slightly less manic pace allows a bit more space for Knott’s vocals, which as a result are more audible and boast a greater impact and intelligence as he rants against blind conformity and the consumer culture. Here Today is prime Midwestern punk from the era when hardcore was beginning to evolve into a more complicated beast, and is worth searching out.” – allmusic.com
