“A leader album released in 1981 by the American saxophonist Frank Lowe, known for his involvement in Don Cherry’s “Ralativity Suite,” “Brown Rice,” Alice Coltrane’s “World Galaxy,” and many other impactful works, both solo and as a leader. This album features recordings made with a sextet including Butch Morris (cornet), Damon Choice (vibraphone), Larry Simon (guitar), Wilbur Morris (bass), and Tim Pleasant (drums), recorded in the same year at Soundscape in New York City. The performances of the participating members, who freely interplay while maintaining a consistent groove throughout, are remarkable. Particularly noteworthy are Simon’s guitar and Choice’s vibraphone, which achieve excellent synergy. Lowe, known for his fiercely intense blowing reminiscent of animal cries, similarly to Ornette Coleman, emphasizes groove in this era, making this session highly recommended.”
