Ernst Wolff – German Students Songs

$10.00
Ernst Wolff (1905–1991), a classically trained singer of opera and German lieder (art song), who fled Germany for England in 1933, recorded a total of five albums of German songs for Folkways, always accompanying himself on the piano. This recording of college/university student songs highlights pleasures outside the classroom, with an emphasis on drinking, young ladies, and general good times, reflecting the predilections of young men liberated from everyday parental constraints. Liner notes provide a brief biography of Ernst Wolff and the background of each song along with the German (or Latin) texts and English translations.
